Poco had originally made their name as a live act, and they'd always been at their best and most easygoing on-stage. The result is this live album of all-new material, featuring Jim Messina's swan song with the band and some of the tightest playing and best singing in their recorded history. Jewels include "C'mon," "Hear That Music," "Kind Woman," and "You'd Better Think Twice." About as perfect an album as they ever made and, not coincidentally, by far the biggest seller the early group ever had.

This was Garth's first CD, and an outstanding debut for a man who would become one of music's most popular singer/songwriters.

This album has all the elements of "good country music" that Music Row has abandoned; meaningful songs, a rebel attitude, amazing musicians, and a true, intelligent, beautiful, powerful Southern belle in the vein of Gretchen Peters and Miranda Lambert fronting it all.
Produced by Rodney Crowell.

Like his friend Vince Gill, Brad Paisley has achieved the often-difficult feat of reconciling being an entertainer and world-class guitarist. He's proven that on four admirable albums, and 5th Gear follows in that vein. Certainly "Ticks," an airy, radio-friendly ditty, is not the true substance here. That comes with such superior fare as the insightful "All I Wanted Was a Car" and "Online," a sly satire of people's Web facades. While his duet with Carrie Underwood ("Oh Love") is a bit cut and dried, Paisley ably handles "Letter to Me," "It Did," and "Mr. Policeman," a 21st-century outrun-the-law tune. The closing hymn, "When We All Get to Heaven," and ripping instrumental "Throttleneck" are Paisley at his best. It's admirable that he invites his venerable buddies, Little Jimmy Dickens, George Jones, Vince Gill, and Bill Anderson, along with Dolly Parton, to join in, but the obligatory "Kung Pao Buckaroos" skit is wearing a bit thin. Better to feature them musically, the way he includes Dickens, Gill, and Anderson on "Bigger Fish to Fry." In a time where lines between county and pop are blurring far too much, it's comforting to know Paisley still realizes and respects the differences.

This is a long lost gem of country rock. One of the albums (together with The Byrd's Sweetheart Of The Rodeo, Dillard & Clark's Fantastic Expedition, Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline and Steve Young's Rock Salt and Nails) that started it all. The brothers go back to their roots on this album with excerpts from a 1952 radio show from the Everly Family mixed with new studio songs that almost 40 years later still are fully alive and kicking. It contains fierce rockers like T For Texas, great folksongs and the most beautiful version ever made of Merle Haggard's Sing Me Back Home. Highly recommended! Q Magazine called it in 1995: "...a modern country classic with sterling contributions..." and Rolling Stone wrote: "...a warm, sentimental album that is nostalgic and contemporary at the same time....Anybody interested in the so-called country revival now sweeping rock should pick up this album. It's right fine..."
The Band - King Biscuit Flour Hour (Live 1976)
americana rock | 320 kbps mp3 | 165 Mb | covers included
One of the best concerts of The Band's final tour in 1976 was recorded for the King Biscuit Flour Hour radio show. 70 Minutes of one of the best and most influential bands ever in great shape.
Singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams is one of the great original voices these days. If you like Lucinda's music you'll be grateful these were released.

vbr (av 200 kbps) mp3's | 80 mb zip-file
One of the best, if not the best, voices of modern country music in her early years accompanied by one of the finest guitarists in his style. This album contains a live recording from 1976 on which she looks back to the Gram Parsons days (listen to the great version of The Flying Burrito Brother's Sin City) and brings a great compilation of the best songs from her first albums. This probably is a bootleg 'cause on the internet no information can be found on things as where the concert took place or who the band is - though it's quite likely that it's the Hot Band. The recording and sound quality are great, though sometimes a very light hiss may tell that this was copied straight from vinyl. A must for anyone who likes or loves Emmylou.
