Camille Vasquez, a lawyer for Johnny Depp, has said his ex wife Amber Heard is giving the ‘performance of her life’ in relation to the pair’s legal battle.
The Aquaman star’s Attorney said during her opening statement that Depp punched and kicked his ex-wife in the middle of a three-day blackout while the couple were in Australia – then in another attack dragged her by her hair, pulling chunks out in the process.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor launched a defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard in 2019, after the Aquaman star described herself as a victim of domestic abuse in a 2018 article she penned in The Washington Post.
In response to this, Heard filed a counterclaim for defamation, with a judge ruling that the star could use a defence where her lawyer’s will argue she is deserving of immunity.
Vasquez began by telling jurors the London Fields actress had been the aggressor during the course of their relationship.
According to Depp’s attorney, Heard had created the role of victim for herself after the actor requested a divorce in an attempt to “avoid humiliation” in the public eye.
“She is obsessed with her public image,”
“She has been living and breathing this role for years now and she is preparing to give the performance of her life.”
The couple were married between 2015 and 2017. In November 2021, Depp lost a libel case against News Group Newspapers after The Sun labeled him a “wife beater”.
