Bill Burr has publicly said Johnny Depp deserved a public apology if Amber Heard loses the trial.
Depp launched a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard in 2019, after the Aquaman star described herself as a victim of domestic abuse in a 2018 article she penned in The Washington Post. Heard never mentioned Depp by name but the actor argued that the article she wrote tarnished his reputation and ultimately his acting career.
During his most recent Monday Morning Podcast, Bill Burr shared support for the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, saying he thinks Depp deserves an apology if Heard loses. He said:
“I’m too big a Johnny Depp fan to watch [the trial]. I love that guy and I just — I don’t want to hear all these personal details and shit,”
“From what I’ve seen the guy is fucking destroying. And what’s great about this, is if he really does expose this woman for lying. I’m wondering if all these people that, you know, just accepted her lies about him if they’re going to apologize somehow.”
The comedian noted that many people have “publicly trashed” the actor, adding “it’d be nice if they publicly apologized and said, ‘Maybe next time we won’t jump to conclusions.’”
