The court has been shown pictures of Johnny Depp’s injuries after severing his finger.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor launched a defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard in 2019, after the Aquaman star described herself as a victim of domestic abuse in a 2018 article she penned in The Washington Post. The trial started Monday 11 April in Fairfax, Virginia.
Depp took to the stand on Wednesday to attempt to clear his name against Heard’s accusations that he was a domestic abuser.
Depp claims that Heard threw 2 vodka bottles at him in the middle of an argument while the couple were in Australia in 2015. He claims the glass is what caused the injury to his finger.
Depp then reportedly went into a panicked state and wrote on the walls in his own blood. Thinking back to the aftermath of this incident, Depp said:
“I don’t know what a nervous breakdown feels like, but that’s probably the closest that I’ve ever been.”
The couple met on the set of The Rum Diaries in 2011 and announced their engagement in 2014 – quickly tying the knot only one year later in February 2015. After many reports of abuse between the couple, Heard filed for divorce in March 2016.
