A case was recorded in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports of an unidentified 54-year-old Brazilian man who got a 2kg dumbbell stuck in his bum, forcing the doctors to pull the weight out by hand.

A surgeon had to use their ‘forearm’ to ‘manually extract’ a dumbbell weighing 2kg from the man’s body.

The 54-year-old went to a hospital in Manaus, complaining of abdominal pain, nausea and being unable to defecate.

After hiding what the man surely knew was causing the problem, the doctors carried out their initial examination and struggled to find the cause of the pain. They noted that the man was ‘uncooperative’ during this exam and an X-ray was then ordered.

The X-ray’s baffled the medical professionals as it was revealed that a 20cm long, 2kg dumbbell was lodged up the patient’s butt.

The man was then sedated while the doc tried removing the dumbbell with surgical tweezers – which was unsuccessful…

As a last resort, they decided to attempt a ‘manual extraction’ which meant one unlucky surgeon had to use their ‘forearm’ to remove the dumbbell.

All was successful in the end and the man was discharged from the hospital three days later and is not expected to suffer any long term complications.

Yikes. Not your usual day at the office for this surgeon…
