Mike Tyson says the man he reportedly punched in the face repeatedly on a plane threw a water bottle at him.
TMZ Sports reported that the incident took place on Wednesday night at around 10.30pm PT as the former pro boxer was due to fly out of San Francisco International Airport on his way to Florida.
An eye-witness on the plane said as he and his friend were boarding, Tyson seemed relaxed. The witness told TMZ that he took a selfie with the 55-year-old but that he soon lost his patience with the overly eager fan who kept trying to talk to him.
Tyson apparently told the fan to chill…when he didn’t, the witness said Tyson threw several punches at the man’s face.
Tyson’s reps have since told TMZ the man provoked the boxer by throwing a water bottle at him, prompting Tyson to respond physically.
His reps announced on Thursday:
“Unfortunately, Mr. Tyson had an incident on a flight with an aggressive passenger who began harassing him,”
“and threw a water bottle at him while he was in his seat.”

The punches resulted in clear injury to the man’s face. The witness said Tyson walked off of the plane only moments after the incident.
According to TMZ, the injured man received medical attention and proceeded to go to the police.
