Millie Bobby Brown has opened up about the “gross” sexualization she has had to face as a child star.

When the actress turned 18-years-old, her social media posts and pictures were flooded with sexually explicit comments.

At the tender age of 12, Brown was thrust into stardom after landing the role of Eleven in the Netflix show Stranger Things.

Her talent was clear from the beginning – she was nominated for not only Primetime Emmy Awards but also Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Despite her immense popularity and obvious talent, when the star turned 18 in February 2022, her birthday took a dark turn online.

Brown becoming a legal adult sparked a very important debate about how female child stars are treated by the public with many expressing their discomfort and general feelings of ickiness after countdowns emerged online to her birthday.

One Reddit forum even had a “NSFW” warning and would not open until the actress turned 18.

NSFW Subreddit created for a minor, Millie Bobby Brown. The Subreddit has been created for weeks and is waiting to "open" on her 18th birthday. It already has thousands of subscribers. from awfuleverything

The disturbed Reddit user wrote that the purpose of the forum was:

“to post sexual pictures of her the day she turns 18.”

“It’s a sub solely dedicated to sexual pictures of Millie, who is currently a minor, until next week but they have a sub prepared already with thousands of subscribers,”

Millie’s 18th birthday Instagram post also shed some light on the reality of being a child star, as it was littered by alarming comments.

Millie addressed it on the Guilty Feminist podcast, saying that she has:

“definitely been dealing with [being sexualized] more within the last two weeks of turning 18 — definitely seeing a difference between the way people act and the way that the press and social media have reacted to me coming of age.”

“I believe that shouldn’t change anything, but it’s gross and it’s true,”

“It’s a very good representation of what’s going on in the world and how young girls are sexualized. I have been dealing with that — but I have also been dealing with that forever.”

This is just gross…
