‘Pyramid like’ Mountain Discovered Sitting Beneath Ice in Antarctica

A peculiar discovery in Antarctica has sparked rumors of a pyramid-like structure hidden beneath the icy terrain. While most of us associate Antarctica with its vast ice cover and inhospitable conditions, the sighting of a pyramid-shaped mass in the southern part of the Ellsworth Mountain range has left many wondering about its origin.

Satellite images revealed a series of peculiar peaks in the area, with one particularly catching attention due to its striking similarity to the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. The base of this enigmatic structure measures 2 kilometers square on each side, leading to a frenzy of speculation on the internet. Some enthusiasts suggested it might be evidence of a prehistoric civilization that thrived in a warmer Antarctica around 10,000 years ago, while others playfully hinted at an “Illuminati” connection.

However, before embarking on wild theories involving ancient civilizations or secret societies, it’s essential to consider scientific evidence. Antarctica has not always been a frozen wasteland. In the distant past, approximately 83 million years ago, the continent supported lush rainforests with average temperatures of about 55°F (12°C), making it more habitable for life.

To unravel the mystery behind the pyramid-like mass, Irvine geology professor Eric Rignot provided clarity. According to Rignot, the structure in question is not an actual pyramid but rather a feature commonly found in glaciated areas, known as a ‘pyramidal peaked mountain.’ These mountains are formed when glaciers converge on the sides of an existing landmass, giving them their distinctive shape.

Rignot explained, “Pyramid shapes are not impossible—many peaks partially look like pyramids, but they only have one to two faces like that, rarely four.” To support this explanation, there are other pyramid-shaped mountains around the world, like Mount Búlandstindur in Iceland and Bordoyarnes Mountain on the Faroe Islands.

So, it appears that this pyramid-like structure in Antarctica is not the result of ancient civilizations, extraterrestrial activity, or secretive societies but rather a fascinating and naturally occurring geological feature. The allure of the mysterious may captivate our imagination, but in this case, it’s simply an intriguing mountain formation in the icy realm of Antarctica.
