Blake Lively has revealed the hidden meaning behind her show-stopping dress she wore on the red carpet of this years Met Gala.

The theme this year was ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’ with the dress code being ‘Gilded Glamour’, paying tribute to the Gilded Age of America from 1870 to 1890.

Lively wowed the crowd with not one, but two looks. Starting with a beautiful copper-colored strapless Versace gown which featured a long skirt with a bustled section around her hips.

She posed beside her husband, who wore a black dinner suit with a white bowtie and waistcoat. The actress then had 3 team members approach her who unwrapped the bustled section of the dress to reveal a showstopper of a teal colored train.

Not only beautiful, but clever too – the custom Atelier Versace gown was loaded with hidden meanings, one of which being it was designed to mimic the Statue of Liberty.

The actress told E! that the Lorraine Schwartz crown she wore was an homage to the one worn by Lady Liberty and the front of her dress was inspired by the classic architecture of the Empire State Building.

The copper into teal colours symbolize how the iconic statute started out copper when it was gifted to America by France in 1886 however, gradually turned the iconic green we all know, due to oxidation.

Beautiful and brilliant.
