Wanda Sykes has revealed what Chris Rock said to her after he was slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars.
The infamous slap took place at the Oscars awards ceremony. Chris Rock made an insensitive remark about Jada Pinkett Smith, comparing her to G.I Jane – Jada has been open about her struggles with alopecia and didn’t appreciate being used as the punchline.
Sykes appeared on The Ellen Show on 30 March where talk of the incident inevitably came up. The 58-year-old said:
“The first thing he said was: ‘I’m so sorry.'”
“It was supposed to be your night…You and Amy and Regina, y’all were doing such a great job. I’m so sorry. This is now going to be about this,”
Sykes admitted she did witness Smith shouting at Rock from his seat and said:
“It was sickening… I physically felt ill, and I’m still a little traumatised by it,”
The comedian also shared that she was slightly baffled that Smith was allowed to remain in his seat for the rest of the evening. The Academy has since announced that Smith was in fact asked to leave the premises, but refused.
This all feels very much like a drama, not real life…
