Johnny Depp’s lawyers ‘celebrated’ after Amber Heard mentioned Kate Moss on the stand in court.
Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard’s tumultuous relationship has been discussed in agonizing detail since the start of the televised defamation trial on 11 April.
During her testimony last week, Heard was describing an incident involving herself, her younger sister Whitney and Depp.
The actress describes swinging at Depp ‘in defence’ of her sister, saying:
“Johnny swings at her…i don’t even wait…in my head i just instantly think of Kate Moss and the stairs…”
The mention of the British supermodel made Depp’s lawyer, Benjamin Chew, fist pump with excitement. A source close to Depp told NYpost that:
“Amber mentioned an ex of Johnny’s that clearly she felt was not supportive of him, which couldn’t be further from the truth,”
Heard mentioning Moss while on the stand could give Depp’s legal team the chance to dismiss a rumour that he pushed the supermodel down a staircase.
Under normal circumstances, alleged misconduct not related to a specific accusation in a case is not allowed to be brought up by the legal team in a trial. However, in this circumstance, the actress bringing up Moss allows the potential for Depp’s team to call the 48-year-old as a witness.
Legal experts told the publication:
“[Moss] is still allegedly friends with Johnny and her testimony wasn’t allowed to come in before because it wasn’t as relevant,”
“That’s one mistake that [Heard] made, was bringing up Kate Moss, which potentially opened the door to [Depp’s team] bringing [Moss] on as an impeachment witness,” — and Moss “saying ‘this never happened,’”
This could also allow Depp’s side to bring up past allegations of misconduct against the 36-year-old actress.
